Token was formerly known as "Nathan" and this little guy (he is bigger now), has had his share of ups and downs.   Token is a happy-go-lucky, goofy 8 month old puppy who just negotiated one of those "bumps in the road" -- and he did it with pazazz!  Token had been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and very recently dislocated that hip.  His did undergo surgery to correct this problem and is now recuperating in his foster home and with the help of some pain meds and his foster's loving care, he is doing just great!  Token loves his toys, is very good in his crate and he will start physical therapy in about ten days. He is a very well behaved and friendly dog who just loves people. He is well adjusted and gets along with most dogs. He is not a chewer and is food driven – very easy to train. Gets along with cats, completely housebroken and a joy to be with.

Token can be dramatic! He can be a bit of a cry baby - just to test you to see if he can get his way!  He is a character, a photo "ham", and boy can he snore!!  This boy is just a hoot! He is a great family dog.  Please contact us for more information about him.  He will be available very soon.

Update 8-7-11: Token's foster has this report: We are making great progress with Token. He has had s difficult recovery from his surgery and we have a way to go before he can run and play like a normal young dog. He is hanging in there, starting to wander around the yard and occasionally tries to run after the other dogs. Token is a wonderful patient but his doctors say that he will need at least 8 more weeks for everything to heal up and for him to build up enough muscle mass around his hip. We've started pool therapy but Token is very fearful of the water so we're working on it.Token is a wonderful family dog, nothing makes him happier than being around his family and he just adores our 2 year old grandson. He takes regular naps in his crate, has full run of the house and is just a joy to be around. He is really a special dog that deserves a special family. The best way to describe him is that he is a people dog who loves giving kisses and greeting all visitors. If Token could speak he'd say "life is good!!"

Update: 7-23-12 - After his surgery and physical therapy, Token has his good days and his slow days, but he has a great pack, both human and canine that cares for him and supports him.  Sometimes he can join in the chase and other days he cheers from the sidelines, either way he has a great quality of life. Token's "pack"  includes a beautiful German Shepherd named Annie, Token’s best friend.   He and Annie spend much quality time together - She seems to know when he is not feeling quite up to snuff and is a great pal for him.  Token's surgery, it turns out,  was unfortunately, only partially successful.

Token’s case has been evaluated both by two very reputable veterinary orthopaedic facilities and they have determined that the only practical solution is to do a total right hip replacement.  Additionally, the evaluation revealed that a total hip replacement is necessary for Token's left hip as well. Given the complexity of the surgery, the tentative plan is that surgeons from both hospitals will work as a team to ensure the best possible outcome.  The surgeries will be very costly.  We expect them to be in excess of $ 7,000 - followed by additional costs for physical therapy.

Token is a young, otherwise healthy dog who wants to join in on all the joy life offers and All Shepherd Rescue  is committed to finding the right solutions for him to ensure that he has a great quality of life.  We do not have the funds to pay for this surgery and would appreciate your donations to help fund the procedures that will guarantee that this great pup have a wonderful rest of his life!

If you would like to donate to help pay for Token's surgery, please use the PayPal Donate Button on this page.  We do appreciate your help!.
