About Bishop

Update 3/2022:

When we got Bishop, he was 9 mths old. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge on February 27, 2022 just shy of 12.5 yrs old.  He was an extraordinary dog in a league of his own, just ask anyone with whom he encountered. At the age of 2, after I had hip surgery, he began, entirely on his own, to do some of what I needed. At that time he got trained as a service dog for me. He not only performed tasks but he also alerted me to migraine,  blood sugar, and neurological things. He developed that entirely on his own. He was gentle, intelligent, a fabulous companion, helper, and just an all around "yosh inu" good dog for those who don't speak Japanese-lol)

We will miss him greatly, yet he left behind an awesome legacy.

Update from Bishop's family, September 2019.

He faithfully served as a service dog for Joan from age 2 until December 2018, almost 9 yrs old. Unfortunately, Bishop needed to retire a year earlier than anticipated due to degenerative myelopathy and another neurological condition.  He still offers much love and is doing quite well, under the circumstances, bursts of playful energy, some squirrel chasing, and, most recently, cricket hunting. He is our yosh inu and we love him dearly, giving him the best palliative care we can offer. He enjoys playing with his pack mate, Bowden in small spurts, loves laying with us outside, going for brief walks, snuggles, and is determined to continue using the steps as much as possible. He is such an amazing dog.

Bishop is a very handsome young man.  He is really just a puppy and at that gangly and awkward stage.  He is very looooong and a very skinny boy right now. Needs more than just a few good meals.  He will eventually grow into those ears, we know it! :)  Bishop will fill out and mature to become a beautiful German Shepherd!  He should grow up to become a pretty good sized boy.  He has huge feet!  Bishop's  foster parents report that he is doing well in a family that includes other dogs of both sexes, cats and an iguana....and a young adult.  Bishop is laid back and takes almost everything in his stride.  He will need training - and that is a given.  Training will help Bishop and his family to cement that oh so necessary bond between a dog and his people.  He is a smart boy - won't take him long at all! Bishop is ready to find his forever home now. Please contact us to arrange to meet him.
