Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Daniel is a really skinny young guy! He really could use a few pounds on him. He found himself on the streets and was picked up.....and there you go..........Handsome young man, looking for a home and a long term relationship with a great family! He is really in need of a bath and a nice brushing......and some good food, but we could tell right away, underneath the straggly coat, Daniel is a hunk....or will be! :) He has huge feet and is lanky - because he is so thin, we think he has not completely finished growing yet.....and his coat is a beautiful black. Daniel is a little head shy -- when you put your hand over his head to pet him, he is visibly distressed and crouches down as if to avoid being struck......so, we are thinking maybe previously Daniel did not have the best of homes. In that case, he is now in a good place and his life is gonna get a whole lot better! In time, with patience and love, this will pass. Daniel will learn that not everyone is cruel....and no one will ever be mean to him again. He shows no aggression, he is very sweet. Daniel will need to attend at least a basic obedience program with his new family.....just to make sure they learn together and establish that all important bond between dog and owner. He is smart, eager to learn, and now in a wonderful foster home -- busy living the good life and learning the ropes of being a great family dog. Update 5/22-Daniel has been in his foster home for nearly a week and is settling in nicely. He is an energtic, young blank slate that has been learning a few house manners such as "down" and "sit". Daniel is much more comfortable in his crate now and readily goes into it with little fanfare. The two resident Shepherds think Daniel is A-okay and have welcomed him into the pack.
Update July 8th: Daniel has made himself at home and loves his three fur brothers and sisters. He is catching up on all he missed in his puppyhood, which means lots of playing, toys, and chewing. He loves his daily walks and continues to master his basic obedience commands. He bonds very deeply and is extremely loyal and protective. While he loves his family, he is very cautious and protective around strange people and dogs - so he will require an experienced handler until he has had more time to work on his socialization skills. He is really filling out and is quite the handsome gentleman. If you feel that you can give Daniel the great home that he deserves, please contact us for more information.
